Obituary - August 8, 2009

Belva Etta Hall Martin, age 85, born August 21, 1923, Putney, Charleston, Kanawha County, West Virginia, died August 8, 2009 in Poplarville, MS after a long illness.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jubal Stanley "Robert" Hall and Mollie Blankenship Hall; husbands, John Edward Henderson, Robert "Bob" Weaver, and John Martin; daughter Carol Sue "Cookie" (Henderson) Bratton; sister, Delia Louise Campbell-Clay.

She served in the U.S. Army W.A.C. during World War II and served at the Pentagon. She lived in West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Buffalo, New York, Florida, and later retired in Mississippi after the death of her husband of John Martin of Eleanor, WV. Her favorite hobbies were golf, traveling, horseback riding, and spending time with family and friends. She is survived by her children; Sandy Hall Sku of Florida, Mary E. (Weaver) Coker and husband Philip of Poplarville, MS, Debbie (Weaver) Bowman and husband Tom of Melbourne, Florida, Shirley Henderson Van Valkenburg of Buffalo, New York, and John Harvey Henderson of Albany, Oregon; sisters, Hazel Frances Hopkins of Roanoke, VA, Violet E. Walton of Lincoln County, WV, Ruth Belcher of St. Cloud, Florida, Ida Mae Brown of Charleston, WV and Donna R. Carr of Charleston, WV; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Jack Bratton, Michelle Bratton, children of Shirley Henderson (Beaver) Van Valkenburg, Deborah and Jennifer Henderson, Eddie and James Coker, and many nephews and nieces.

There will be no service at this time. Mrs. Martin will be cremated. Arrangements are being made for later service at graveside in Red House, WV by her late husband, John Martin.
